Friends, welcome to our new site! Oh my goodness, I can’t even tell you how much joy it brings me to invite y’all into this fresh new space we’ve made on the Interwebs. Check it out, click around, take it all in. But first, let's have a little chat about how and why we got here and where we're headed.
Let’s go all the way back to December 2016. I was a couple of months into marriage to my sweet man and fresh into freedom from disordered eating that had enslaved me for years. I was working a job in education and really wanting a place to put my nutrition degree to use. I needed a creative outlet and I wanted to share all the ways I’d found freedom and victory in food. So, the blog was born.
For a while, it was pretty strictly a food blog. I mostly shared recipes and talked a lot about nutrition and how different foods affect our body and how we can use food as a tool to be our healthiest selves. I was sharing from a place of victory over my disordered eating and my autoimmune disease.
But a year and a half ago, I got sick. I was diagnosed with my second autoimmune disease and I gained 50 pounds and I lost all sense of control over my life. I walked straight back through all the lies I had claimed to have victory over. I struggled with fueling my body well because I had quite literally given up on it. I felt like I couldn’t have a nutrition blog and encourage y’all to love your bodies when I was believing all the worst about mine.
I was losing the fight against the darkness, and I couldn’t bear to show up here and pretend like I had it all together.
So I didn’t. I stopped showing up. I took long breaks away, and then I came back thinking I was ready. Multiple times. I stopped talking about food or sharing what I was eating because I felt like a fraud sharing about an area I felt so little freedom in. So instead, I shared our house renovations and I danced around the topics of health.
But again, it felt wrong. I didn’t know who to show up as for this blog because quite honestly I didn’t know who to show up as to the world. I was struggling hard with an identity crisis of all sorts and it kept me hiding.
At the end of November, I told y’all I’d be taking the month of December off the ‘gram to prepare the blog for 2020. I quieted the noise, I sat with God, and I asked Him what He wanted. I expected a month of creating a content calendar, writing some new posts, and quite honestly just a relief in a break from showing up. But holy moly, y’all, I got so much more than that. I got reflection and clarity and I got a freakin’ vision.
I realized the block that kept me from showing up here was that I was trying to show up for an old blog. The one that was about food and nutrition. And I was trying to show up as my old self. The one I was before Hashimoto’s and before entrepreneurship and before the insane amount of work the Lord’s done on my heart through the trials I’ve walked through.
And when I realized all that, I knew a whole rebrand was needed. I wanted to pause, dream, cast a vision and build a whole new brand for this mission I’m now on.
So here it is! This is what was birthed out of that time. This is my new mission. This is our new space.
We’re going to rewrite the narrative on wellness – because it’s about so much more than yoga and green juice. We’re going to help you see your unique beauty and empower you to show up for the life God created you for.
I’m still going to talk about the power of good food and mindful eating. You’re still going to get nourishing recipes and healthy lifestyle tips.
But you’re also getting more. More honesty. More truth. More connection. Because my life sure as heck is about more, and I know yours is too.
YES! Are you as fired up as I am thinking about this world-changing stuff we can do? If you want to participate in it, here are some ways:
I’m so darn excited to share this journey with you, I quite literally have tears in my eyes as I type this. This is what it feels like to live on purpose, to use your gifts, to tell your story. And I can’t wait to share it all with you and spur you on in your journeys!
